Title: she died
Series: War Drums
Word Count: 200
Fandom: BtVS, Doctor Who
Disclaimer: Doctor Who and all related characters are copyright Sydney Newman, C. E. Webber, Donald Wilson and BBC One. No infringement intended. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all related characters are copyright Joss Whedon and ME. No infringement intended.
Note: If you haven’t read the rest of the series this probably won’t make any sense. Also I apparently wrote this after watching the ‘The End of Time’ and never posted it. Whoops?
Synopsis: She died so they could live—it’s not like it’s a big deal or anything.
The world had gone mad and full of Masters.
Son of a bitch.
She had been stabbed.
Shot.
Electrocuted.
Drowned—did she mention she hated it when they drowned her?
Hit in the head with a brick and all of it before sunrise, but with the sun came hope. It brought the Masters to their knees and Buffy struggled her way through the ruins of a mansion and towards the cries of the Doctor.
His frustration ate at her, his desolation hurried her tired stride until she burst through the broken doors and into the Doctor’s arms. Buffy welcomed his surprise and listened to Wilfred’s shouts of not letting him do it—not letting the Doctor kill himself for one man.
Buffy smiled and nodded. “Let me.”
The Doctor—her Doctor—shook his head. “The prophecy—”
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you?” Buffy rose, pulling the Doctor up with her, “Prophets are tricky creatures.”
She ignored his insistences—she had grown good at that—and placed herself in the glass room, surrounded by machines and destruction. She freed Wilfred and pressed her hand to the glass, smiled at the Doctor and died one last time.
She awoke on the TARDIS.
The end.
